Astronomy Clubs Preparing Latino Audiences for the Eclipse |
Welcome
As part of an American Astronomical Society grant, the Astronomical Society of the Pacific is providing materials in Spanish to 25 astronomy clubs and Solar System Ambassadors across the country. We hope to assist clubs in preparing their local Latino population for the upcoming eclipse as well as foster enduring relationships and curiosity about astronomy across cultures.
In order to assist your outreach efforts, we will provide a banner and handouts in Spanish, solar activities with translations, and training for club members on effective collaboration with Latino communities. You don't need to speak any Spanish to participate, just have a willingness to reach out to nearby Latino populations at events they already hold. Examples include cultural, music, and sporting events, and festivals that attract a large Spanish-speaking population. If you don't know where to begin, you may want to reach out to a local library, museum, or school to make connections with the Latino community.
To participate, applicants must identify a Latino festival where you can set up a telescope, table, or booth to talk about the upcoming solar eclipse. Tell us about your plans below. We will send materials to as many qualifying clubs/Ambassadors as possible.
Please tell us about your plans below. Applications due by April 28.
