About the Open Space Plan

The purpose of the Open Space Plan is to ensure a long-term vision for Eagle County Open Space (EC Open Space) and the Open Space Fund. As more stress is placed on open spaces and the benefits they provide to communities, there is a need for a thoughtful and strategic conservation approach of the County’s open spaces.

The Eagle County Open Space Plan provides an opportunity to think intentionally about the future of open space in Eagle County. Public involvement is critical to this process and survey responses will help shape the Eagle County Open Space Plan.

This survey is not your only opportunity to participate! Over the next few months we will host a variety of events, meetings, and online activities where you will be able to learn more about the Eagle County Open Space program and the Open Space Plan and to share your feedback.

This survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Purchases lands directly or conserves land through conservation easements

Partners with federal, state and local agencies and organizations to acquire and manage land (for example: The West Avon Preserve with Eagle Valley Land Trust and the town of Avon, or Glassier Open Space with Pitkin County Open Space and Trails)

Manages properties in coordination with federal, state, and municipal land managers (US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Colorado Parks & Wildlife, towns, etc.) to promote dispersed recreation and public lands access

Protects river access and manages put in/ take out areas on the Upper Colorado River and Eagle Rivers

Manages land as working ranches that are used for hay production, livestock grazing, and other agricultural purposes, while balancing hiking, fishing, and other recreation activities
