Tameside Council is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions across the borough by 2038, aligned with its Climate Emergency declaration. As road transport remains one of the largest contributors to local emissions, and with Electric Vehicle uptake set to rise sharply, expanding a fair and accessible public charging network is essential.
In response to this, we have produced a draft Tameside Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy 2025–2030. This document, which can be accessed here, sets out how we will:

- Use given funding to deliver at least 600 public charge points by 2030
- Improve air quality and reduce transport emissions, we aim to be net zero by 2038
- Make charging accessible for all, including elderly residents and those with disabilities
- Make charging suitable for all, especially where there is no off-street parking
- Support businesses to switch to electric vehicles and create new opportunities in the local low-carbon economy
We want to make sure that residents, businesses and community groups across Tameside with an interest in Electric Vehicle Infrastructure can have their say on our plans. A consultation, accessible from the Council website here, has been launched which will run from 1 September - 27 October.
