Early Literacy 101 Workshop - October 30, 2026 - Johnsville, Ohio

Register for Early Literacy 101, a workshop offered by Ohio Ready to Read and led by ORTR trainers Alice Mackey from Delaware County District Library and Penelope Shumaker and Janet Ingraham Dwyer from the State Library of Ohio. This workshop is supported by ORTR, Perry Cook Memorial Public Library, Cardington-Lincoln Public Library, the trainers, and by the State Library of Ohio with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and is made possible at no cost to you.

The workshop will take place from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm on Friday, October 30 at the Perry Cook Memorial Public Library, 7406 County Road 242, Mt. Gilead (Johnsville).

There will be a break for lunch. The workshop hosts will organize an opt-in box lunch order (cost TBD). Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options will be available. You may also choose to pack a lunch instead.

Briefly, what is your background/experience with early literacy? For example, are you very familiar, somewhat familiar, or not at all familiar with Every Child Ready to Read? Do you have an early childhood or education background? Are you knowledgeable about early childhood development and early literacy research in general? (There are no right or wrong answers; this is just to gauge the overall level of background knowledge of the workshop participants).
Plan to bring to the workshop two (or more) picture books that you like and enjoy using in storytime, and one storytime outline. If you don't lead storytimes, bring any picture books that you love, and borrow a storytime outline from a coworker, or locate one online, or contact us for assistance. The books you bring do not have to be on the storytime outline!
