Early Literacy 101 Workshop - November 3, 2025 - Powell, Ohio

Register for Early Literacy 101, a workshop offered by Ohio Ready to Read and led by ORTR trainers Annamarie Carlson from Westerville Public Library, Janet Ingraham Dwyer from the State Library of Ohio, and Alice Mackey from Delaware County District Library (DCDL). This workshop is supported by ORTR, DCDL, the trainers, and by the State Library of Ohio with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and is made possible at no cost to you.

The workshop will take place from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm on Monday, November 3 at the Liberty Branch, DCDL, 7468 Steitz Rd. in Powell. There will be a lunch break and stretch breaks.

A certificate of attendance will be available on site.

* Briefly, what is your background/experience with early literacy? For example, are you very familiar, somewhat familiar, or not at all familiar with Every Child Ready to Read? Do you have an early childhood or education background? Are you knowledgeable about early childhood development and early literacy research in general? (There are no right or wrong answers; this is just to gauge the overall level of background knowledge of the workshop participants).

* Delaware County District Library is graciously providing lunch at no cost to attendees. Please bring a drink (water station available). Select your lunch:

California Club Box - croissant sandwich (turkey, guacamole, bacon, swiss), fruit cup, cookie

Gluten-Sensitive Traditional Box - sandwich (ham, gluten-sensitive bread), chips, marshmallow krispie

Vegan Spinach Veggie Wrap Box - wheat wrap (spinach, guacamole, pico, mushrooms), fruit, chips

I will bring my own lunch. (fridge/microwave are available)

Plan to bring to the workshop two (or more) picture books that you like and enjoy using in storytime, and one storytime outline. If you don't lead storytimes, bring any picture books that you love, and borrow a storytime outline from a coworker, or locate one online, or contact us for assistance. The books you bring do not have to be on the storytime outline!
