FAll 2026 APPLICATION EI Collective: Attuned and Intentional

Description

EI Collective: Attuned and Intentional is an Illinois professional development opportunity supported by the Early Intervention Training Program at UIUC that seeks to support early interventionists by providing a space for practice support to promote contemplation and critical thinking, provide support, foster team cohesion, and help mitigate stress and compassion fatigue in Illinois Early Interventionists.

Through seven engagement experiences with team facilitators, participants will focus on establishing relationships that support the growth and development of the interventionist and those they encounter in their EI practice. A guided process promotes discussion, questioning, planning, and decision-making by leveraging the expertise of team members and other professionals. The purpose is to collectively 'see' an event, experience, or person as clearly as possible without judgment, criticism, or praise.

Each of these activities supports the interventionists' ability to understand better themselves and the work they are doing. As interventionists engage in these practices, their capacity to honor and cherish their strengths while exposing and working on their vulnerabilities will continue to cultivate a foundation for ongoing personal and professional growth, thereby improving the quality of EI services.
Details:

This Collective experience is an Intermediate-level course for active EI providers supporting Illinois families. An Active EI Provider is an individual who is currently credentialed and enrolled to bill for services* in the Illinois Early Intervention (EI) Services System and actively provides support and services to enrolled children and families within the Illinois EI Services System. This experience also includes licensed assistants who are currently credentialed and have provided support and services within the last six months under the supervision of a licensed and credentialed EI provider. (*SCs are not enrolled to bill. Please consider joining the Illinois SC Forum for support specific to Service Coordination.)

The sessions will be structured using Dana Childress' "Pause and Reflect" book (to be provided) and, with facilitators, offer participants an opportunity to deepen their early intervention practice alongside a community of learners through reading, discussion, reflection, collaborative problem solving, and the application of strategies in their current work with families.

As the group evolves, the facilitators and participants will work together to determine the best approach to meet their individual needs.
Requirements:

Interested participants will complete an application that takes 10-15 minutes and includes two short essay questions. Applicants are encouraged to reflect on these questions in advance of starting the application and provide a thoughtful response that meets the minimum word requirements:
  • Please discuss your reasons for applying to the Early Intervention Collective: Attuned and Intentional, and what you desire to attain during this experience. (Minimum 100 words)
  • Please describe your approach and philosophy of working with young children and their families. (Minimum 100 words)

Accepted participants will be part of an active collective that meets twice a month. The first session will be an introductory session lasting 90 minutes, with the additional sessions lasting two hours.
  • Participants should be prepared to share self-reflections, personal experiences, and work experiences, and to engage in active listening with reflective responses.
  • Participants will participate virtually via computer or tablet (not by phone), with access to audio, a microphone for speaking, and a video camera for live video projection, and be in a location where they can participate fully and confidentially for each session.
  • Participants will receive a copy of the "Pause and Reflect" book, with the expectation that they read and complete the associated activities separately before sessions.
  • It is recommended that participants have prior knowledge of the Mission of EI, the Division of Early Childhood (DEC) Recommended Practices, the Illinois EI Principles, the elements of the coaching approach, and adult learning principles.
