GUIDELINES

Eligibility

To be a part of this program, organizations will voluntarily offer free or steeply discounted admission to any bearer of a Massachusetts-issued Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card.

Visitors use their EBT card to identify they are eligible for a discount; the card is not for payment.  If your institution is taking monies, they should be collected in the regular ways your institution uses (cash, credit card).

Eligible discounts are:
  • For regular admission, during all normal operating hours, or for every regular season performance, to be used at any time.
  • Available to the family or individual adult holding the EBT card.
  • Offered through your regular admissions process, or redeemable in the same way other discounts are.
  • Valid from the time of sign-up through June 30, 2019.
Organizations decide on the extent of the discount for themselves – the admission price, if any, and the number of people that the discount extends to per card.  Special performances or exhibits may be exempt from the discount – if there is an extra fee or upcharge, organizations are not obligated to offer a discounted rate.  Organizations may limit the number of spots available to EBT cardholders, if there is limited capacity for a class or performance.

You can view this list of participating organizations and their discounts to get an idea of what you might choose to offer.

Requirements

Participating organizations must:
  • Agree to having their discount and visitation information on the DTA’s website, and in their printed materials.
  • Offer a discount from the time of sign up until at least June 30, 2019, and must honor the discount they have listed on the DTA’s site.
  • Train box office or admissions staff to make the entry process as smooth as possible. There should be little to no difference in how our EBT cardholders are treated relative to other visitors.
  • Collect usage and attendance information, and report on it by July 15, 2019.
