Health Professional Experiences with Executive Order on Diversity Training |
On September 22, President Trump issued a divisive and discriminatory Executive Order seeking to block federal grantees and contractors from engaging in certain diversity training efforts. In addition to seeking to prohibit workforce trainings on racial and gender sensitivity and inclusion, there is concern that the executive order might also be used to prevent LGBTQ diversity training. Since academic institutions, hospitals and health care systems generally receive significant federal funding and often engage in diversity training efforts, the executive order could severely impact the work that you might be doing within your own institution, and also thwart GLMA’s mission to ensure culturally and clinically competent care for LGBTQ individuals, including LGBTQ people of color.
GLMA and other LGBTQ advocates are already mobilizing to oppose this Executive Order and ensure LGBTQ people receive the care they need and deserve.
To aid us in our advocacy efforts, GLMA is collecting stories from health professionals regarding their experiences regarding the Executive Order, including any changes to diversity or inclusion trainings regarding race, gender, sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Please share your story below in as much detail as you can.
