Course Overview
Futures Without Violence’s Institute for Leadership in Education Development (I-LED), in partnership with U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), presents, “The Distance eLearning Course,” a 12-week online educational event for OVW grantees. The Distance eLearning Course will assist OVW grantees to create interactive, inclusive, and engaging virtual education. This course is designed to help grantees to improve the design and the delivery of virtual education, utilizing best practices in adult learning and engagement online. This course will cover instructional design of live web sessions and virtual courses and will include live and self-paced sessions, office hours, and a final participant demonstration. Participants will come in teams of 2 from the same organization and should work together in education development for their organization.

Course Learning Objectives:
As a result of this workshop, participants will be better able to:
  • Create higher quality, inclusive, and engaging virtual education;
  • Determine the best medium of educational delivery to achieve goals and objectives for learners;
  • Apply adult learning methods to a virtual environment;
  • Identify and support dynamic facilitators for virtual education; and
  • Consider safety needs and accessibility needs of learners who participate in virtual education on domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking, and stalking.
Timeline and Dates
This eLearning course will take place online over the course of three months and include 8 active weeks of content and engagement.
The course will begin on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 and continue through Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 11 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. MT / 1p.m. CT / 2 p.m.ET. All live sessions will take place via Zoom on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. MT / 1 p.m. CT / 2 p.m. ET. No live sessions will occur the week of July 7, 2021 or August 4, 2021.

Who may attend?
Participation is limited to 40 participants representing OVW grantees, including advocates, attorney-advocates, batterers intervention specialists, prosecutors, law enforcement, judges, and other professionals. Participants must be a partner, applying from the same organization (groups of 2). Participants must agree to attend all virtual sessions.

Course Requirements 
We ask that participants attend all live sessions; however, up to 2 sessions will be excused if the participants view the session recording and complete any associated homework. There will be homework assigned in between weekly course sessions, resulting in no more than 4 hours of work per week, including time spent together in virtual meetings. Each module on Canvas will correspond with the topic each week.

Upon acceptance, FUTURES staff will provide detailed instructions and guidance for creating Canvas profile, a syllabus, and access to other materials needed.
