Bringing people together

Dalston is changing rapidly, but when do we, the community, get to have a say? Hackney Unites believes in bringing people in our communities together to identify the issues we care about and to build power (so that politicians and developers can not ignore the issues that matter to the community). We need help to do this.

* 1. At 6.30pm on Tuesday 10 December, Hackney Unites is organising a meeting at the Trinity Centre Beechwood Road, London E8 3DY to bring the community together to discuss our concerns and aspirations for the future of Dalston. Please let us know if you will be joining us.

* 2. If you have not already done so, please list up to three issues that you think we as a community can influence if we get organised?

* 3. If Hackney Unites began to organise around these issues would you be willing to help out with the campaign?

* 4. Please list any Dalston based community groups that you think we should speak to about this project (this could include everyone from faith groups to sports clubs) and provide contact details if you have them?.

* 5. Please tell us who you are so we can stay in touch.

* 6. Can you commit to asking 10 neighbours to fill in our questionnaire (it is just one page long and essentially use asks them to identify their three main concerns and indicate if they would like to be kept informed of our activity)?

* 7. We want to ensure that everyone in Dalston knows about this initiative, would you be prepared to act as a co-ordinator for your block or street, ensuring that when we have a network of volunteers when we need to get a leaflet through everyone's door?

* 8. If you are a business, faith or community organisation, would you be prepared to display materials advertising our events?

* 9. Hackney Unites runs a training course in community organising. It is free, and it is also fun. It can provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to turn community concern into community action able to influence events. Please let us know if you would be interested in attending the course (which can be run over two full days or six evening sessions)?

* 10. Any final comments

Thank you for completing the survey, we look forward to working with you in the future.

Hackney Unites is grateful to Awards for All for sponsoring this project.
