A new Medicaid dental rate increase is coming to Kansas this summer!

You may recall that last year the Kansas Legislature enacted a Medicaid dental rate increase with a $10 million investment. The rate increase was allocated in a way to make the maximum impact possible, and your feedback made that possible. In July 2025, 152 D codes were increased by the following percentages:

- Exams: 50%
- Cleanings/scaling & root planing: 35%
- X-rays and composite fillings: 20%
- All other codes 10%

The 2026 Kansas Legislature allocated $5 million for a second Medicaid dental rate increase. This investment is a meaningful acknowledgement of the need to improve the Medicaid dental provider network, but it still falls short of the amount needed to implement a significant increase for all of the covered codes.

Less than 30% of Kansas dentists are Medicaid providers, and the goal of the rate increase is to both preserve the current Medicaid dental provider network and add new providers. We are asking for feedback about the codes that are most important to increase in order to preserve and grow the network as well as ensure Kansans with Medicaid coverage are able to access the care they need.
