About The Parramatta Play Project Workshops
Proudly supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW, The Parramatta Play Project Workshop is a professional development opportunity for eight emerging/early-career* Western Sydney playwrights.
Following the development of The Parramatta Play Project’s “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Parramatta” — a full-length collaborative theatre work created by a team of professional writers — these workshops provide the next generation of Western Sydney writers with an opportunity to develop their skills, expand their creative practice, and gain experience in writing for performance within a collaborative environment.
Led by award-winning writer, director and creative producer Augusta Supple, selected participants will take part in three rapid-write weekend workshops throughout August 2026. Through a series of timed writing exercises, character development activities, collaborative scene-making and group discussions, writers will generate material that will be woven together into a new theatrical work inspired by the City of Parramatta.
Participation is free of charge, with all workshop materials provided. Writers will work as part of a small cohort in a supportive and creative environment that encourages experimentation, collaboration, artistic risk-taking and the development of new ideas.
The workshop program will conclude with a public presentation of the newly developed work as part of Parramatta's Lit! Festival in September 2026, providing participants with an opportunity to share their work with the community.

* emerging/early-career refers to writers over 18 years of age with a professional intent for their writing, and who self-describe as emerging/early career which might mean the first 10 years of practice or less than 5 produced plays (including short plays, films or full length works).
