* 1. The City of Scottsdale has proposed building a “Desert Discovery Center” (DDC) , also known as the “Desert Edge”, in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve at Gateway Trailhead. The DDC is a capital project costing over $60,000,000 to build. Its proponent estimates that 300,000 additional visitors will come to the Gateway Trailhead annually. The project consists of more than 40,000 Square Feet of Air Conditioned buildings and approximately 120,000 Square Feet of total covered space including canopies. Approximately 105 people will be employed at or by the DDC.
