The fast for nuclear disarmament is one of fastforpeace.org's four 72-hour fasts during the year. 2021 marks the 76th anniversary of the United States twin atomic bombings of Japan in 1945. The bombs dropped on Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9) killed more than 100,000 people; the current US stockpile alone is enough to destroy the planet five times over.

In the 21st century, we can let nuclear stockpiles atrophy rather than spend hundreds of billions to modernize them. Fastforpeace.org is organizing a group fast across the US and world, for those wanting to demonstrate solidarity with efforts to make the world safer for future generations.
