Workforce Strategy

A Workforce Strategy became a policy priority in 2023, driven by a clear need to stabilize the sector by addressing ongoing recruitment and retention challenges.

A Workforce Strategy is about investing in the people who make up our sector. When nonprofits can attract talented, fairly compensated staff, organizations are better positioned to fulfill their missions and create meaningful employment that strengthens communities.

In 2025, the Nonprofit Chamber released a Workforce Strategy Feasibility Study identifying 10 key areas to support nonprofit workforce needs. The study pointed to a Nonprofit Workforce Council as an immediate next step, and found several priority areas where coordinated action could make a real difference across the province:
  • Clear pathways connecting candidates to nonprofit careers across Alberta
  • Shared, sector-wide best practices on salaries and benefits
  • A centralized hub of labour market information

Your input is essential to shaping what comes next. This survey will help us understand your organization's priorities and experiences as we move from feasibility to action.
