Faculty Recruitment Program - General Information

The AUC Data Science Initiative has allocated funds to work collaboratively with AUC member institutions (Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College) to recruit and hire faculty who have expertise in data science or data science-related fields. These funds are intended primarily to assist with the hiring of tenure-track and tenured faculty at an AUC member institution. The AUC Data Science Initiative's Faculty Recruitment Program is intended to augment, but not supplant, existing support for faculty recruitment and hiring.

Funds totaling $160,000 are available to contribute to the recruitment of faculty whose research can enrich data science at the AUC. The expertise of the faculty should include data science or a data science-related field including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cybersecurity.

One-time funds may be requested for a specified number of years, and these funds may be used for purposes including but not limited to recruitment (including job advertisements, travel, etc.) and "start-up funds" (including computer equipment, software, research support, travel, bringing visitors to campus, etc.).

Start-up funds support the faculty member’s transition to the institution and transfer of research and scholarly activities from his/her previous institutions. The institution should define data science-related research-based deliverables that are tied to the funds, including the submission of proposals for external funding, the submission of papers to peer-reviewed journals, and presentations at academic conferences. Start-up funds cannot be used to supplement a faculty member's academic year salary or cover personal expenses.
