* 2. Team Name

Question Title

* 3. Please review the following PROCEDURAL rules. INITIAL at the bottom to indicate you have read and understand the rules:

- Each team may consist of no more than three members.
- There may be only one designated speller on the team for each word.
- The use of cell phones or other electronic devices by team members, during the competition is prohibited.
- There will be four judges and one pronouncer.  The ruling of the judges as to the correct spelling of a word will be final.
- The study-list words will only be used during the first round of competition.  Words will increase in difficulty during later rounds.
- If more than 2 teams remain in the competition and no team correctly spells a word during a given round, all teams who spelled in that round will be re-instated.
- Except when only two teams remain in a round, if a team spells a word incorrectly and does not utilize a Bee Enhancer, that team will be eliminated from the competition.
- When the competition only has two teams remaining, the elimination procedure changes.  If one team misspells a word, the other team will have a shot at the same word.  If the second team spells it correctly, the Bee is over and the second team wins.  If the second team also misspells the word the round concludes and both teams continue in the competition.  The first team will then be given a new word and the cycle continues until a winner emerges.
- Once a team is eliminated, they are asked to go sit at their tables.  The chairs up front will only be for those teams who remain in the competition.

* 4. Please review the following TIMING rules. INITIAL at the bottom to indicate you have read and understand the rules:

-The pronouncer will do his/her very best to pronounce the word twice.  After the word is called, a team may ask for the following information about the word: (1) the definition (2) the word’s origin or etymology and (3) use of the word in a sentence.  Once the word is repeated twice and any of the information that has been asked is given, the team may confer for 20 seconds before they must begin spelling the word.  Once the 20 seconds is up, the word speller must approach the microphone and begin spelling. If the team does not initially ask for the information, the information asked for will be counted in their 20 seconds.  Therefore, it is to the team’s benefit to go ahead and ask for the definition, word origin or how to use the word in a sentence before the 20 seconds begins.  The word can only be announced 3 times total by the pronouncer, aside from asking for the above information.
- Once a speller has approached the microphone and begins to spell the word, they cannot stop and start over with a different spelling.  There can be no change of letters and their sequence from those first spelled.  However, the speller can stop and start over without changing the sequence of the letters.
- Spellers have a maximum of 15 seconds to finish spelling the word once they approach the microphone and begin to spell.

* 5. Please read about the following BEE ENHANCERS, included in team benefits. INITIAL at the bottom to indicate you have read and understand the rules:

-Spell-again: The opportunity for a team to get a second shot at spelling a word if they spelled it incorrectly the first time.  The team must present the spell-again to a judge before re-spelling the word.  So, if the speller is trying to decide how to spell the word and changes the letters the next time they begin spelling it, a spell-again cannot be used because it wasn’t presented before re-spelling the word.
- Mulligan: The ability for a team to “pass” on a word, meaning that they do not have to spell it, and the word is discarded.  Spellers will be given a new word to spell, and if they spell that one incorrectly, they will be eliminated.
- Stinger: If a team receives a word that they have no clue how to spell, they can pass the word to a different team.  However, if the team that is stung does not know how to spell the word either, they can use a Stinger and pass the word to a different team.  You can’t sting a team that has already been stung or that has used their Stinger on that word.  If a team uses their Stinger, it is as if they spelled the word correctly and will advance to the next round.  If every team gets stung on the same word, and the last team has a Stinger that they would like to use, but has no one to sting, they may forfeit their Stinger to remain in the competition.
- Only 1 Bee Enhancer is allowed per team per word.
- Once two teams remain in the Spelling Bee, Bee Enhancers may no longer be used, with the exception of the Buzz a Friend, as previously noted.
