Talk about your co-workers to others. Talk about how this is "just like" your co-worker.

Go along for pizza.

Go along for pizza after telling your friend you had some last night.

Negotiate a place that has pizza and other things you like.

Tell your friend all about the new sushi restaurant you heard about, hoping they will get the hint.

Cancel your plans.

I leave the conversation.

I feel the emotions coming and can manage them.

I start to yell and verbally attack.

Talk to your co-workers about how unfair the situation is.

Bring up how your attendance will benefit the company and support your career goals with your manager. Ask them for feedback on how to be included next year.

Confront your boss about how poor they are at their job.

Write a letter to HR and your union indicating how displeased you are that you have been excluded.

You make your sister happy and find the money somewhere so you can go.

Complain to your mom about the destination party in hopes mom will give you the cash.

Tell your sister you are not able to attend the destination party but look forward to taking her out to dinner when she gets back to celebrate.

Complain to the family about how inconsiderate your sister is.

Tell your sister that he is inconsiderate and should know better then to plan a destination party when you're strapped for cash.

Tell your friend that you never liked their partner anyway.

Avoid your friend until the drama is over.

Let your friend know you're there to help. Invite them out for coffee.

Ask for all the juicy details.

Shut up and wait for them to finish and go away.

Make noncommittal noises and nod your head hoping this will be over soon.

Ask them to speak to you in a way that will help you feel more comfortable hearing the message.

Roll your eyes and keep checking your watch.

Tell them exactly what you think of them and that they need to step off before the situation gets worse.
