Be Heard, Be Recognised – The Future of CPA Australia

Dear CPA Member

We all need to ask ourselves:
 ·         Are we interested in protecting (or should this be improving?) the CPA brand?
·         Is the current Board equipped to handle the review and changes necessary to make our organisation great again?
·         Should we replace the current Board with an interim Board, made up primarily of State Divisional Presidents, to assess and guide our organisation in the short term, providing for the orderly appointment of a new Board in due course?

I’m Lejo Ouwendyk, a CPA for over eight years.  I manage Kennerlys, an award-winning CPA practice in West Perth.  I have four CPAs in my Team and two staff currently studying to become a CPA.  Kennerlys' strong reputation is based on honest, professional, up-to-date knowledge and value-added services.  CPA Australia has been a great brand for Kennerlys as it reflects many of our values and we are proud to be a CPA Public Practice.

However, lately I’ve been extremely disheartened with activities within CPA Australia, in particular, from its Board of Directors and Executive leaders. The highly-publicised questionable leadership of the Board and certain of its Executives, including the use of member funds, has been splashed across the media, resulting in significant and ongoing erosion of the CPA brand and reputation, and confusion and disappointment for thousands of its members.

Rebuilding

I feel the CPA brand can be rebuilt and the integrity and high reputation of the organisation can be restored.  To do this, I firmly believe that the appointment of an interim CPA Board is the best and only option now.  A complete change-out of the Board is necessary to move forward, and Divisional Presidents appear to be the most obvious source from which to form this interim Board. This Board can review our practices, together with current activities. It can seek and share advice to steer the organisation back in the right direction and re-cement CPA as a leader in corporate governance. This will, in turn, provide a platform for a more orderly transition to a new Board in due course.

We need to have a Board that has been voted by members to review the organisation and recommend the changes that need to happen to steady us on course and regain our stability and reputation.

Let’s stand together, and make a difference. A swift change will cement our very foundation and return our great brand to it's rightful place in our society.
