Collective Strategy: Charting our Course

The Oregon Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence (OCADSV) is seeking conference workshop proposals from knowledgeable experts with a robust understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking regarding survivor-centered intervention, advocacy, and prevention.

Past conferences have had over 200 participants attend, including domestic and sexual violence advocates and leadership; local, state and federal government employees; and numerous community partners from the healthcare, military, law enforcement, corrections, K-12 and higher education, social services, and mental health fields.

OCADSV is dedicated to the continuous growth of advocate skills. Our goal is to offer space to collectively share and learn from the expertise and experience of peers and leaders. Together, we can turn a fearful approach to the future to one of curiosity and collaboration. In solidarity, we can navigate our state’s shifting landscape. Collectively, we can create the systems our communities need.

We are looking for workshops that explore the work of our field with fresh eyes and that offer tools and ideas for those who do the difficult work supporting survivors where they’re at.
CRITERIA
All proposed workshops must:
· Be designed for experienced practitioners (no *beginner-level content); and
Incorporate interactive and participatory workshop facilitation methods.
*Beginner-level, or 101 content, includes any foundational training that professionals in S/DV work should have already learned as a basic function of their role, such as basic advocacy or management skills. Our conference seeks to build new knowledge among Oregon’s advocates

Additional consideration will be given to workshop proposals that:
· Substantively cover material within one or more priority topic areas (see below)
· Provide attendees with tangible knowledge/skills/tools/practices; and/or
· Feature multi-lingual and multi-cultural presenters for workshops conducted in languages other than English.

The Oregon Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence joyfully welcomes people of every race, ethnic background, spiritual belief, economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, immigration status, and all communities.
Priority Topic Areas
Violence Prevention
Workshops that offer prevention and community outreach efforts.

Domestic/Sexual Violence Intervention
Workshops that offer training primarily for those who do direct service with advocates.

Nonprofit Leadership in Community-Based Advocacy Agencies
Workshops that offer training primarily for board members, directors, management, and administrative staff.

Liberatory Wellness
Workshops that address systemic challenges that impact the wellness of our organizations, communities, and our bodies/minds. We are interested in seeing workshops that can offer practical care strategies in the workplace, community care, wellness culture (and the impact it can have on marginalized people), and more.

Advocacy within Tribal Nations *New for 2024*
Workshops that range from broad introductions to issues impacting tribal/indigenous communities. History of treaties with Oregon’s tribes, PL 280, jurisdictional challenges, etc.
Practical application of co-advocacy between mainstream and tribal nation service providers, how to partner and form relationships between service providers, and supporting one another’s efforts.

For all our topic areas, successful workshops will be attentive to the unique systemic challenges that are experienced by survivors, advocates, and leaders who hold marginalized identities.
