The Professional Emerging Leader (PEL) Award honors a SWE professional member who has been actively engaged in an engineering or technology degree, has demonstrated outstanding technical excellence, has consistently engaged with SWE, and has at least 5 and no more than 15 years of experience. The award may be presented to one professional member annually.

The ideal candidate will be:
  • A Professional member who has been actively engaged in an engineering or technology profession in significant accomplishments.
  • A Professional member who has demonstrated outstanding leadership excellence
  • A Professional member who has demonstrated consistent SWE membership and actively participates in SWE activities
Eligibility:

  • Nominee must be a SWE Region H member in good standing at the time of the nomination.
  • Nominee must be a professional member of SWE.
  • As of December 31, must have at least 5 and no more than 15 years of experience.
    • Each advanced engineering degree obtained on a full-time basis counts as one year of experience.
    • Internships and co-op experience are not counted.
    • Periods of unemployment or maternity leave are not counted.
Letter of Recommendations:
  • One letter should be from the nominating section or SWE Leader (Local Section leader, Region leader, etc.)
  • One letter should be from a professional colleague
  • Note: Each letter must be on letterhead, be signed, and clearly state how (and for how long) the author knows the nominee.
