The Birmingham Multi-Agency Welfare Reform Committee is working to help the citizens of Birmingham prepare for and manage the impact of changes to benefits that are taking place as a result of the Welfare Reform Act.
Universal Credit is the new single benefit that will eventually replace most existing benefits and tax credits. The new system is designed to be “digital by default” - that is, most claimants will be expected to apply online and manage their claim through an online account.
In readiness for the introduction of Universal Credit, the Welfare Reform Committee has identified tackling digital exclusion as one of its priorities.
As part of Birmingham’s Digital Inclusion Strategy and its GO ON Digital Champion programme, Digital Birmingham will be producing an online map and directory of free internet access provided by voluntary, community and public sector organisations across the city to signpost people to the facilities and help they need to get online.
Your participation in this project to coordinate resources to support Birmingham residents who do not have digital access would be much appreciated.
If your organisation provides free internet access and/or help and advice to enable people to get online, please could you complete this survey with details of the provision available by Wednesday 31st July.
