The Otero County Health Department-Tobacco Control Program is conducting a Youth Access to Tobacco Survey to measure community attitudes and behavior related to youth access to tobacco, and tobacco use.

The data collected will help to determine attitudes and behaviors specific to youth access and tobacco use, identify area(s) of need to increase education related to tobacco, and gauge community support to implement policies that strengthen measures to prevent youth access to tobacco products.

The results will be shared at community presentations such as Chamber of Commerce, City Council and identified community organizations.

In 2014, Otero County Health Department Tobacco Control Program and the leadership team worked in collaboration with Rocky Ford City administration to pass a non-cigarette tobacco ordinance which requires tobacco retailers to have a license to sell non-cigarette products. This ordinance allows us to know who is selling non-cigarette tobacco products as well as work with retailers and their employees to ensure they have the educational tools necessary to prevent non-cigarette tobacco sales to minors. In addition, local law enforcement agencies will be able to conduct compliance checks to ensure all provisions of the ordinance are followed.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. Please answer each question as honestly as you can. There is no right or wrong answers. Your answers will be completely anonymous.

Sincerely,

Otero County Health Department, Tobacco Control Staff
