About this Scholarship: The Special Libraries Association (SLA) is committed to equity in access to information, in availability of opportunities, and in the treatment of our members, our industry partners, and all with whom we engage and interact. Many library and information (LIS) professionals have experienced job loss or economic hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the US and Canada, communities of color have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Globally, members of non-dominant ethnic, religious, linguistic, and social groups have also been disproportionately impacted. To better support professionals in these groups within our SLA community and the information profession as a whole, SLA is offering 10 individual, one-year, full memberships for LIS Professionals undergoing a period of financial hardship who meet the following criteria:
For the US and Canada members: Identify as Black, Indigenous, or as a Person of Color.
For members outside of the US and Canada: Identify as a member of a non-dominant ethnic, religious, or linguistic group or a social group whose individual members have been historically denied equal access to employment, education, social services, housing, etc. in your country of residence because of membership in the group.
If more than 10 applications are received for membership scholarships, SLA will prioritize based on these criteria:
