Listening Session #2

Participants: AMIA members of Hispanic/Latinx Descent (of any race)

Date: Tuesday, March 16, 12:00 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. ET

Place: Zoom conference

The DEI TF is organizing listening sessions to help make recommendations to the AMIA Board of Directors on how to combat racism, sexism, ableism, LGBTQIA+-phobia and other forms of discrimination in informatics, from training to professional practice, and within AMIA and make substantive, sustainable changes within our profession. The sessions are designed to create a safe place for members to share as much detail as one feels comfortable sharing. Anything disclosed during the sessions is strictly confidential and comments will not be directly attributed to individuals.

Procedure

As part of this study, you will be placed in a group of 5 – 7 individuals. A moderator will ask you several questions while facilitating the discussion.

This focus group will be audio-recorded to provide a transcript and a note-taker will be present.

However, your responses will remain confidential, and no names will be included in the final report.

You can choose whether or not to participate in the focus group, and you may stop at any time during the course of the session.

Please note that there are no right or wrong answers to listening session questions. The DEI Task Force want(s) to hear the many varying viewpoints and would like for everyone to contribute their thoughts. Out of respect, please refrain from interrupting others. However, feel free to be honest even when your responses counter those of other group members.

Benefits and Risks

Your participation may or may not benefit you and other participants directly. Findings, conclusions and recommendations will become part of a larger, comprehensive report supporting recommendations to the AMIA Board of Directors.

No risks are anticipated beyond those experienced during an average conversation.

Confidentiality

Should you be selected to participate, you will be asked to respect the privacy of other listening session participants by not disclosing any content discussed during the study. Members within the Diversity, Equity and Inclusions Task Force will analyze the data, but—as stated above—your responses will remain confidential, and no names will be included in any reports.
