Ability to:
1. Type at a speed of at least 40 words per minute to note and disseminate information quickly and accurately.
2. Communicate effectively and identify appropriate levels of communication required for successful job performance.
3. Read and interpret maps, post mile system, GPS coordinates, etc., to locate incidents and dispatch crews quickly and accurately.
4. Think and act quickly and appropriately in emergency and high stress situations in order to provide accurate information to staff and other allied agencies.
5. Speak clearly and concisely to relay information accurately to staff, supervisors, other allied agencies, and the general public to maintain safety.
6. Prepare reports (e.g., road, weather, staff reports, probation reports, public records requests, etc.) for successful job performance and to share information.
7. Analyze situations accurately and take effective a timely action to maintain and prioritize the safety of staff, public, and allied agencies.
8. Perform administrative work (i.e. interviews, probation reports, hiring documents, justifications, timesheets, correspondence, etc.) using phone, email, and other office equipment to provide information to various personnel.
9. Supervise a group of Dispatcher-Clerks using different management styles to meet shift coverage and other safety needs.
10. Effectively contribute to Caltrans’ Equal Employment Opportunity Program objectives to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
