Welcome to the 2025 Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Survey of Canadian Practices in Vision Zero and the Safe System Approach, being conducted by the Vision Zero & Safe System Outreach Subcommittee of the Road Safety Committee.
A previous survey was conducted in 2021 as part of the TAC volunteer project "Synthesis of Canadian Practice in Vision Zero and the Safe System Approach". The original survey results can be found
here. The 2025 survey aims to assess progress and share the practices of municipalities, provinces, territories, regional and federal organizations responsible for road safety throughout Canada, which may include the adoption and implementation of Vision Zero and Safe System Approach principles. The Vision Zero philosophy and Safe System Approach are described in the infographic below and in more detail in the TAC publication found
here.
Note, "Vision Zero" is used in this survey to refer to any Road Safety Plan, Program or Policy that supports the Vision Zero or Safe System principles, whether or not you refer to it by those names in your jurisdiction.
By answering this survey you will help:
1. Track the progress of road safety practices across Canada
2. Assess the impact of road safety and Vision Zero programming
3. Share and learn from current practices in road safety and Vision Zero with comparable organizations
4. Build a network of professionals looking to incorporate best practices in road safety
Please connect with colleagues within your organization who are involved in leading or delivering Road Safety / Vision Zero or Safe System Plans or Programs, and complete one survey per organization. Survey responses can be revised at any time, even after it is submitted. The survey should take between 15 and 20 minutes to complete.
Note, survey responses may be reported by level of government, population, region, land/use and TAC membership status, but NOT BY INDIVIDUAL ORGANIZATION to protect confidentiality. Aggregated responses will be shared with TAC members, and potentially used to develop national guidance on these topics. Any contact information provided for follow-up purposes will be kept in strict confidence.
Thank you for your time and contributing to our knowledge about road safety and Vision Zero in Canada!
