Chicago, Illinois

Please join the Health Research Alliance (HRA) and the Circle of Service Foundation in Chicago, Illinois on September 19, 2017 for a day-long meeting on the topic of Big Data sharing. The meeting will build on two webinars hosted by HRA’s Open Science Task Force on July 11 (access the webinar recording) and on August 10 (register here), which will present an overview of data sharing principles and topics specific to Big Data.

The objectives of this meeting will be to reinforce an understanding of the opportunities of Big Data sharing – for example, to accelerate progress towards practicing precision medicine, and to provide a forum for private funders of biomedical research to discuss their role in advancing this vision. Sessions will include:

  • Landscape of data sharing projects
  • How and why researchers shared Big Data they generated
  • Describing and differentiating current data sharing platforms
  • Principles of data commons
  • Roadmap for establishing data commons
We are excited to host discussions with a number of luminaries in the field, including Bob Grossman (of NCI’s Genomic Data Commons), Brian Nosek (of the Center for Open Science) and others.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 19 from 8:30am to 3:30pm. A pre-meeting reception will be held on September 18, at 6:00pm. Both the meeting and the reception will be held at the new AbilityLab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago), one of the foremost rehabilitation hospitals in the country. The address for the AbilityLab is 355 E. Erie St., Chicago, IL 60610. Space is limited, and registration for the meeting is required.

We look forward to joining you for this critical and exciting conversation,

Maryrose Franko, Health Research Alliance
