Please join us on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 5pm for Global Health Grand Rounds with Dr. John Tarpley, Professor of Surgery & Anesthesiology.

John L. Tarpley, MD, FWACS, FACS trained in medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his General Surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, including two years of Surgical Oncology research and training at the NIH, and six months of thoracic surgery training in England. Tarpley’s first position was at the Baptist Medical Centre, Ogbomoso, Nigeria and the University Teaching Hospital, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria for twelve years with each fourth year spent back at the Baltimore VA Medical Center and Hopkins. Tarpley returned to Vanderbilt and the Nashville VA MC in 1993 where he served as Program Director for General Surgery for 20 years. After retiring mid-2016 from the Nashville VA and Vanderbilt as Professor of Surgery & Anesthesiology, Emeritus, Dr. Tarpley has spent his time through present in surgical education at the AIC Kijabe Hospital, Kenya, the University Teaching Hospital Kigali in Rwanda, and currently in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Botswana.

This event is hosted by the UT Southwestern Office of Global Health in conjunction with the UT Southwestern Department of Surgery and the Global Health Interest Group (GHIG).

You may park in Lot 7 Visitors Parking. From there, walk south across Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson Drive to the McDermott Plaza. Walk towards the Visitor Information Center and down either set of stairs. This is the D Lecture Hall area. Walk around to the D1.700 Lecture Hall.
