GPUS Economic Democracy Platform Amendment

This poll is for members of the Youth Caucus of the Green Party of the United States to vote on whether to add the Youth Caucus as a co-sponsor to an amendment of the platform of the Green Party.

To qualify as a Youth Caucus member, you must be between the ages of 14 and 36, registered with your state's Green Party, and have filled out the Youth Caucus's membership form at http://ygus.org/join-us/

This amendment advocates for economic democracy--to explicitly reject capitalism and to assert our aspiration for a democratic economic system that is organized to meet human needs. As the amendment reads, some call this decentralized system “ecological socialism,” “communalism,” or the “cooperative commonwealth.” You can see the full text on the YGUS website at http://ygus.org/discussion/

After having sent it to the Youth Caucus via email blast, posting it on our website for discussion, and posting it on the Young Greens Facebook page and Youth Caucus Facebook group, and considering the member responses; the Steering Committee of the Youth Caucus has unanimously endorsed this platform amendment and recommends the Youth Caucus as a whole co-sponsor the platform amendment alongside of the states of North Carolina, New York, Colorado, the Latinx Caucus, and others.
