Thank you for taking part in this important study led by Dr. Yvonne Lawley at the University of Manitoba (Yvonne.lawley@umanitoba.ca) in collaboration with the Ontario Cover Crop Steering Committee, and Callum Morrison, Crop Production Extension Specialist with Manitoba Agriculture (Callum.Morrison@gov.mb.ca). This project builds on the 2020 Prairie Cover Crop Survey and the 2020 Ontario Cover Crop Feedback. In 2020 we heard from more than 1,300 farms across 4 Canadian Provinces. We are eager to hear from farms across this region again in 2025.
This survey is open to all farms in Ontario and the Prairie provinces (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta), whether the farm:
· Grows cover crops
· Has grown them in the past
· Has never used them.
Your input will help farms, researchers, and crop advisors understand how and why cover crops are being used, the benefits and challenges farms experience, and what encourages or hinders wider adoption.
The time taken to complete the survey varies greatly depending on the farms experiences with cover crops:
· Have never used them - (10 minutes)
· Have grown them in the past but stopped - (15 minutes)
· Grows shoulder season cover crops (30 minutes)
· Grows full season cover crops (30 minutes)
· Grows both shoulder season and full season cover crops (30 - 60 minutes) Note, if the farm grew both there is an option to conclude the survey at half way point, approximately 30 minutes.
Please answer survey questions from the perspective of your farm business rather than from the perspective of your personal opinion. If multiple individuals are part of farm the business, please submit only one survey response on behalf of the farm. Your answers will be kept confidential, and results will be shared in summary form only (for example by province, commodity, or farm type).
If you’d like a copy of the final report, you’ll have the option to provide an email address at the end. The findings will be available by November 2026.
Thank you for adding your voice. Your participation strengthens our agricultural industry across Canada.
