Introduction

The SDGs propose a set of ambitious targets to be achieved by 2030. However, some SDG 4 targets do not clearly specify an objective standard to be pursued.  For those targets that do not express either a concrete action to be implemented or a specific target value (e.g. a certain percentage) to be achieved, there is a lack of clarity on what benchmarks1 should be met.

This questionnaire2 collects information on the regional or sub-regional education monitoring framework initiatives. In order to reduce countries burden to report data on education to regional or international organizations, it is critical to understand the regional or sub-regional education monitoring framework initiatives that are taking place in the world and their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 global and thematic indicators.  The information collected in this questionnaire will be used to look for synergies between the UIS and regional organizations for data collection

It also aims to collect information on existing benchmarks regarding the SDG 4 indicators and will provide better guidance and inform the deliberations of the SDG – Education 2030 Steering Committee.

1A benchmark is “a standard, a reference point, or a criterion against which the quality of something can be measured, judged, and evaluated”.
