Would your school like to take part in Claws on the Line activities? |
To increase awareness of Tasmania’s numerous burrowing crayfish species in Tasmania, including some very special threatened species in certain spots, the Bookend Trust invites north and north-west primary schools to join in Claws on the Line burrowing crayfish activities in September and October. We offer school incursions and an art competition to help students learn and understand more about about these amazing creatures.
School incursions: These are offered during 15-17 September for schools in and near Devonport/Latrobe, and 22 - 24 September for schools in the Burnie area. Each incursion (two hours) includes three hands-on and interactive burrowing crayfish activities, led by zoologists Dr Alastair Richardson and Dr Clare Hawkins who have a deep understanding of the animals and the science behind threatened species. School incursions are suitable for Year 5 and 6 students, and we can accommodate 1 - 2 classes. Full details via these Dropbox links (you don’t need an account): Devonport & Latrobe | Burnie
Art competition: Students are invited to create burrowing crayfish artworks (including drawing, painting, sculpture) to help let people know what might be living beneath their feet! Artworks are displayed at an awards event in late October and prizes are presented for outstanding entries.
If you are interested in getting involved in any of these free activities, please complete the following form ASAP and we'll be in touch!
