City of Longview Shorelines Community Visioning Survey

Introduction

Please help determine our community’s goals for future use of shoreline areas within the Longview city limits by completing this survey.

The Shoreline Management Act (SMA) required the City of Longview to update its Shoreline Master Program (SMP) in cooperation with the State Department of Ecology regulating development along shorelines. These regulations cover such issues as public access, bulkheads, docks and other activities.

The City shoreline jurisdictional areas are:

Columbia River – approximately 2.4 miles of shoreline with about 37 percent of it consisting of a busy deep-water port (Port of Longview) and the remainder relatively undeveloped. There is a levee system along this shoreline.

Cowlitz River – approximately 3.9 miles of shoreline with mixed uses. There is a levee system along this shoreline.

Lake Sacajawea – approximately 4.4 miles of shoreline. This 51.5 acre lake is completely surrounded by the city-owned Lake Sacajawea Park.

Long Bell Log Pond – approximately 0.25 miles of shoreline within Longview’s jurisdiction. This 111 acre log storage pond is located in an industrial area.

Public input is a critical part of any Master Program. Please take a few minutes to answer the following questions. Your opinions are very important to this process.
