1. Office of the Governor General of Canada: Caring Canadian Award

History:  When the Right Honourable Romeo LeBlanc  became the Governor General of Canada, he was determined to thank the thousands of caring people who give so much to their fellow citizens – the unsung heroes who volunteer their time, their efforts and a great deal of their lives to helping others, and who ask for nothing in return.  In 1995, the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award was created.

Eligibility Criteria:  The award recognizes living Canadians and permanent residents who have volunteered for an organization and made a significant, sustained, unpaid contribution to their community.

In an effort to ensure that more Caring Canadians receive this award, the Governor General’s office has selected Food Banks Canada as one of its trusted partners in an effort to recognize volunteers in the food banking sector.  Food Banks Canada is working with the Governor General’s office and has developed this simplified application form.  Nominators can submit this form to Food Banks Canada, skipping the online process available through the Governor General’s office as well as the reference requirement.  The nominator needs only fill out this form and send in to Food Banks Canada.

Nominations can be made through the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General (www.gg.ca/caring), or through Food Banks Canada, a trusted partner of the Office of the Governor General for the purposes of selecting recipients of the Caring Canadian Award.

This form is to be used for food bank volunteers only.
