Survey

We would like to invite you to take part in a survey about your experience with off-site construction practices within the Canadian construction industry. Off-site construction consists of planning and designing building elements that can be pre-manufactured under controlled plant conditions and then rapidly ‘assembled’ rather than ‘constructed’ at a job site. There are 8 questions in this survey and it should only take 3-5 minutes. Thank you for your participation.

Purpose of the Study

The results of this survey will help us understand the current state of prefabrication in the Canadian construction industry; which stakeholder groups are engaging in off-site construction, what types of building components are being built off-site, and how off-site practices vary by project type. The study will also highlight how off-site construction practices vary geographically. These understandings will identify current off-site capabilities as well as gaps within the industry and will be the first step towards a more effective deployment of industrialized construction across the country.

Participation and Withdrawal

Your participation in this study is voluntary. It is your choice to be part of the study. If you decide to be part of the study, you can decide to stop (withdraw), at any time, even after giving consent or part-way through the study. If you decide to withdraw, there will be no consequences to you. Information provided up to the point where you withdraw will be kept unless you request that it be removed. You can withdraw from the study within 1 week of completing your survey.

Confidentiality

The data in this research will not be used to identify you. The data will be compiled and analyzed independently of any contact or company information provided. On the final page, you will be asked to provide your employer's name and email. These fields are optional and can be left blank. The information gathered in these fields will remain confidential and will only be used to filter duplicate responses within the same organization.

All electronic data will be kept on a computer protected by an encryption, firewall, and password, where only the research team will have access. Once the study is complete, an archive of the data, without identifying information, will be maintained until publication. This will be deleted following publication of the study (within five years).

Information about the Study Results

We expect to have the initial analysis completed by late April 2021. A concise summary of the survey findings may potentially be published in a journal article. When our research article is published, we will make a summary of the publication available on our website (www.unb.ca/ocrc). We also intend to send a brief summary of the results out to all the associations who helped us share and administer the study.

Questions about the Study

If you have questions or need more information about the study itself, please contact us at alex.caskey@unb.ca. This survey is part of a study that has been reviewed by the University of New Brunswick and is on file as REB 2021-010. You are under no obligation to complete this survey.
