This tool will guide you through a series of questions about hauling various waste materials to determine if a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) transportation license is required to operate in or through Wisconsin.

What kind of waste do you have questions about hauling?(Required.)

Solid Waste or Recyclables:
Solid waste is waste that is no longer used for its originally intended purpose. It includes what some of us think of as “trash” or “garbage,” but also materials such as demolition waste, yard waste and contaminated soil. Solid waste can include commercial, industrial, recyclable and municipal materials, and can be solid, liquid or contained gas. Recyclables refers to waste materials that will be processed and converted into raw materials.

Used Oil:
Any oil that has been refined from crude oil or any synthetic oil that has been used and, because of the use, is contaminated by physical or chemical impurities. Does not include cooking oil or biodiesel. For cooking oil transport requirements, select Solid Waste or Recyclables.

Hazardous Waste:
Waste with properties that make it dangerous or capable of having a harmful effect on human health or the environment.

PCB Waste:
Waste that includes the class of organic compounds known as polychlorinated biphenyls.

Infectious Waste:
Waste that can pass on infectious diseases to people or animals, such as sharps (e.g., healthcare needles), blood or human tissue.
