Howard County Local Behavioral Health Authority CAMS-care training |
CAMS Interactive Training
Thank you for your interest in the CAMS-care (Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality) training provided by the Howard County Local Behavioral Health Authority! CAMS-care is an evidence based, suicide-focused treatment framework backed by 30 years of clinical research and 6 published randomized controlled trials. This training opportunity is being held to facilitate a greater knowledge base and skill set for Howard County Clinicians to be able to meet the needs of clients with suicidality in Howard County, in the least restrictive setting possible. The Howard County Local Behavioral Health Authority is funding a FREE training opportunity in the CAMS framework for up to 15 clinicians in Howard County.
CAMS is an evidence-based therapeutic assessment and treatment framework that places concerted emphasis on the word “collaborative." In this framework, therapists work hand-in-hand with each patient, discussing the patient’s experience in a non-judgmental fashion using the Suicide Status Form (SSF) as a guide to gather information about the patient’s current experience and suicide risk. This framework helps them identify triggers together then work collaboratively to devise treatment and stabilization plans — all while building trust through collaboration and transparency throughout the treatment process.
Participants who complete the entire CAMS-care training, consisting of a self-guided Foundational Video Course (this is completed virtually, prior to the workshop at your pace), an In-Person Role Play Training, and 4 consultation calls, will receive 10 CEUs. By participating in the full training, you can opt-in to the clinician locator with CAMS-care which is a public way to let people know that you have been trained. In exchange for the training, clinicians will be asked to send a simple quarterly datasheet tracking their utilization of the model to the LBHA. The Role Play Training will take place in-person on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 8am-4:30pm at the Howard County Health Department, located at 8930 Stanford Blvd, Columbia, MD 21045. For more information regarding CAMS-care visit their website at https://cams-care.com. For questions related to the training specifically, please contact SuicidePreventionBH@howardcountymd.gov.
