Welcome! To celebrate National Banned Books week (September 23–29) the SC State Library is hosting a Literary Cake Decorating Contest for SC high school students enrolled in their school's Culinary Arts Program.

Students are asked to decorate their cakes with favorite books, book characters, authors, or with a literary theme, such “Banning Books Silences Stories”- a reminder that everyone needs to speak out against censorship.

The criteria for participating in this contest are:

  • Students must submit the registration form below by September 21, 2018 to enter this contest.
  • Cakes must be delivered to the State Library (1500 Senate Street, Columbia) by 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018.

The contest winners are determined by library visitors, who vote for their favorite cake between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.  After the voting ends and the winners are announced, the cakes will be cut and served. First, second, and third place winners will receive special prizes and photos of all participants and cakes will be posted on the State Library’s website and social media.
