Call for Volunteers: 2026 Victorian Sector Census |
For the first time, AMaGA Victoria is mapping the full breadth of Victoria's collecting sector. We're looking for volunteers to help make sure every organisation has the chance to have their voice counted.
Why the Census Matters
Victoria has over 1,300 museums, galleries and community collecting organisations. Many have never been part of a sector-wide picture. The 2026 Sector Census will change that, giving AMaGA Victoria the evidence it needs to advocate effectively to government.
But the census is only as valuable as its reach, and we need to make sure the right people at priority organisations know the census exists and understand why completing it matters.
Expectations
Once the census goes live, volunteers will follow up directly with a list of priority organisations to encourage completion. Most volunteers will contribute between 2 and 5 hours across the six-week campaign, but any time you can give is genuinely appreciated.

Volunteers will need to:
- Attend one of two online information sessions (Thursday 2 or 9 July), where we'll walk through the census, talking points, and the contact list.
- Receive a manageable list of priority organisations, with contact names and details provided.
- Contact those organisations by phone to confirm the census has reached the right person and encourage them to complete it. (Desk and phone available at the AMaGA Victoria office if needed.)
- Track outreach in a simple spreadsheet we'll provide.
This is a conversational role. You'll be representing the sector and helping organisations understand why their participation matters. We'll give you everything you need to do it well.
