The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Coordinating Center for Epilepsy (Center) defines a "promising practice" as an approach or method that demonstrates promise in enhancing the quality of care for children and youth with epilepsy (CYE) and related chronic conditions. These strategies, designed to be implemented by pediatric health professionals (eg., pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, nonphysician clinicians, public health practitioners, school nurses, and social workers), aim to improve access to coordinated and comprehensive care for CYE across the lifespan. The Promising Practice initiative seeks to collect and showcase innovative, practical, and replicable strategies that can positively impact the overall care and well-being of individuals living with epilepsy. Your submission contributes to advancing the goals of the Center and provides a platform for recognition, collaboration, and professional growth.

Following review, submissions will be featured in the Center’s bi-monthly newsletter and select promising practices will also have the opportunity to present at future Center events, including advisory committee meetings, action learning collaborative meetings, and young adult council meetings.

Why Submit?  The Promising Practices initiative provides an opportunity for health professionals to share successful practices/strategies that may be utilized to care for CYE. By sharing your work, you will:
  • Demonstrate your commitment to enhancing care for CYE.
  • Share your successful practices/strategies, including any challenges and lessons learned.
  • Contribute practical and innovative implementation strategies to elevate the quality of care for CYE and related chronic conditions.
  • Support pediatric health professionals in implementing similar strategies within their clinics/practices.
Submission Process: The submission form is intended to be brief to capture information about promising practices within your program. Following your submission, the AAP staff will schedule a time to follow up to learn more about your work. We appreciate your dedication to enhancing the field of pediatric epilepsy care and look forward to your valuable contributions.
