Request a larger recycling bin

Introduction

We are introducing new recycling wheeled bins from summer/autumn 2027.

Most households will receive:
  • One 180 litre recycling bin for paper and cardboard
  • One 180 litre recycling bin for plastics, cans, cartons and glass
The standard bins will be suitable for most households.

While the standard 180-litre recycling bins are expected to be suitable for most households, the council recognises that some homes may need additional recycling capacity because of household size or other circumstances.

Two 180-litre recycling bins provide more capacity than the three recycling boxes currently used by most households. However, homes that regularly fill four or more recycling boxes may benefit from larger 240-litre bins.

This form is for households that think they may require additional recycling capacity and wish to be considered for larger 240 litre recycling bins.
Please only complete this form if:
  • You have received a letter or email from us about larger recycling bins, and
  • You currently receive a refuse (black bin) collection and kerbside recycling collection from City of York Council.

You do not need to complete this form if:
  • Your property has communal bins
  • Your waste is collected in black bags
  • Your recycling collections are provided by St Nicks
  • Your household was included in the 2025/26 Bags to Bins programme.

If any of the above apply, your property is not included in this phase.
