Out Connections Belfast – Participant Interest Survey

Out Connections Belfast is a comprehensive programme that:
  • Builds greater collaboration across the LGBTQIA+ support infrastructure
  • Promotes and strengthens the delivery of local LGBTQIA+ services
  • Delivers an outreach programme that will increase awareness, understanding, and respect for the LGBTQIA+ community.

The activities delivered throughout this project will:
  • Promote understanding of and respect for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Seek greater inclusion of members of the LGBTQIA+ community in accessing LGBTQIA+ services, mainstream services, and visibility within Belfast as a city.
  • Engage cross-community and relationship building between LGBTQIA+ groups and wider local, community and voluntary sector groups in Belfast.
  • Combat prejudice and discrimination.

1.Opening and Closing Conferences

What to expect: Come along to one or both of our conferences where you can meet service providers to the LGBTQAI+ community, hear about what the project is and what it’s achieved, how you can be involved, what will happen once the project finishes. Also hear from keynote speakers about what’s happening in the community and what’s coming up.

Benefits: Opportunities to network with other members of the community, have your voice heard about what it’s like for you living in Belfast, hear from other members of the community and charity sector organisations about their experiences and services.

Commitment: 6 hours for each event, refreshments will be provided
2.Strategic Planning Group (DEADLINE 18 DECEMBER 2025)

What to expect: Work with the steering group members to develop a map of LGBTQIA+ services and organisations in Belfast. Share your experiences and work with us to paint a picture of available LGBTQIA+ services, show what works well and what could work better.

Benefits: Have a say in shaping the strategy and action plan that will help the LGBTQIA+ sector thrive to 2027 and beyond. Taking part will also give you the tools and experience to achieve important goals for you and your community.

Commitment: One 2-hour meeting per month for 5 months (November 2025 – March 2026)
3.Complete The Survey

What to expect: The project includes a simple and accessible online survey which gathers the lived experiences of members LGBTQIA+ community. You can share as much or as little as you wish.

Benefits: Help paint a picture of what it's like to be LGBTQIA+ in Belfast today.

Commitment: Complete an online survey.
4.Focus Group Member

What to expect: Join other members of the community in small groups to share your experiences about what it’s like being LGBTQIA+ in Belfast today. You will also be invited to take part in the closing conference in December 2027.

Benefits: Tackle important topics and share your lived experience. Connect with other LGBTQIA+ people in the area around important topics that concern the wider community.

Commitment: 30 hours Maximum
5.Longitudinal Case Study Participant

What to expect: This part of the project will help us understand the unique experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals living in Belfast. This case study provides insights into their views, feelings, and struggles, which will help to inform the communication and outreach work we do. Our findings will also inform policies, interventions, and programmes that promote equality, inclusivity, and well-being. 

Benefits: The study will empower LGBTQIA+ individuals by validating their experiences, identities, and struggles. Their stories will be heard and given a voice. The findings will help policymakers and organisations design targeted interventions to address issues faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. Challenge discriminatory practices, educate the public, and promote social change.
