MISSION STATEMENT: 
The Coaster Theatre is a nonprofit organization in Cannon Beach, Oregon, dedicated to presenting live theatre and events that engage residents and visitors of all ages along Oregon’s North Coast. This is accomplished through community support, including the work of volunteers and paid staff, that sustains the theatre’s long history in the performing arts.
Coaster Theatre Productions (DBA Coaster Theatre Playhouse) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, subject to the laws of the state of Oregon. The board of directors, as the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, is responsible for:
  • Determining the mission and purposes of the organization
  • Selecting and evaluating the performance of the executive director
  • Strategic and organizational planning
  • Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
  • Fundraising and resource development
  • Approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
  • Enhancing the organization’s public image
  • Assessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization
The board of directors and nominating committee will annually assess which skill sets are not adequately addressed on the board and may recruit specifically to round out the board’s needs for specific skills such as:
  • Knowledge/experience in effective financial record keeping of an organization so as to maintain accurate and legal records
  • Legal knowledge/experience, especially with regards to nonprofits in Oregon state
  • Knowledge/experience in Robert’s Rules of Order
  • Knowledge/experience in common and best practices pertaining to human resources
  • Knowledge/experience in facilities management
  • Knowledge/experience in successful fundraising or grant writing
EXPECTATIONS:
  • Commit to an average of 6 to 10 hours per month for the theatre (includes board and committee meetings as well as other activities).
  • Prepare for, attend, and participate in board meetings, committee meetings and strategic planning. Give proper notification if unable to attend.
  • Read, understand, and comply with Coaster Theatre bylaws, policies, and board decisions.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding executive sessions and discretion regarding internal matters. training sessions. 
  • Publicly support board decisions.
  • Comply with the Conflict of Interest Policy; disclose any possible conflicts of interest in a timely manner.
  • Review and understand financial reports
  • Chair or co-chair at least one committee, recruiting other members as needed. Be open to participating on more than one committee
  • Assist in resource development through personal influence/relationships with others.
  • Sign Board of Director Agreement outlining the Roles, Rights and Responsibilities upon election to the board and annually thereafter.
  • Undertake or participate in special assignments.
  • Volunteer at a minimum of 5 theatre events annually.
  • Promote and attend theatre events.
