You are being invited to participate in a research study. Before you give your consent to volunteer it is important to read the following information and ask as many questions as necessary to be sure you understand what you will be asked. 
 
You MUST be 18 years of age or older to participate.

 
Investigators: Dr. Thomas Norman, Faculty Professor Department of Management and Marketing California State University, Dominguez Hills Campus. Melanie Gerner, Senior Communications Student, Undergraduate Research Assistant CSUDH.

 
Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this study is to learn more about the experience of college students who are parents of dependent children under the age of 25.

Description of the Study:  Participants will be asked to describe their experiences as students and student parents and the activities involved in being a student parent such as study habits, work habits, how you feel as a student parent and what are the various challenges they face being a parent while going to school and attending college. As a participant, we will also ask questions about your wellbeing and your levels of stress associated with balancing a work/study/parental role to better understand the needs of the student parents on campus. At the end of the survey, you will be given the option to participate in an interview.

Risks and Discomforts: There are no risks or discomforts associated with participating in this assessment. Benefits of the Study:  There are no direct benefits to the participants. However, results from this study may provide benefits to the scientific knowledge, and to current and future student-parents. 

Confidentiality: Anonymity and confidentiality are both of paramount importance to the researchers and will be maintained to the extent that the law allows. To maintain your anonymity, please do not enter any identifying comments into any of the fields, aside from those in the demographic questionnaire. To protect confidentiality, only the investigators will have access to the data provided. All the data will be kept in a password-protected digital drive indefinitely. Please know that the investigator is a mandated reporter for certain types of information you may share. If you mention suicidal thoughts, intention to seriously harm others, or knowledge of child or elder abuse, the investigator will be required to report such information to the appropriate authorities.

Incentives to Participate:  No incentive is being offered by the investigators.

Voluntary Nature of Participation: Participation in this study is voluntary. Your choice of whether to participate will not influence your future relations with the university. If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw your consent and to stop your participation at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are entitled.
