Dr. Shannon Bates - Thrombosis in Pregnancy and Anticoagulation
Objectives:
· Understand the recommendations for treatment of VTE in pregnancy
· Appreciate the difference in approach to VTE management in pregnant vs. non-pregnant patients
· Discuss the impact of pregnancy and lactation on the choice of medications used to prevent and treat VTE
· Understand when to investigate for thrombophilias in the pregnant or post-partum patient with VTE
Dr. Shital Gandhi - Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy and Updates Session
Objectives:
· Master the classification approach to hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, and its crucial importance
· Appreciate the role of the internist in the management and treatment of hypertension in pregnancy, preeclampsia, and post-pregnancy care
· Discuss preeclampsia prevention
· Understand early models of preeclampsia prediction
· Review the medications that can be used safely to treat hypertension in pregnancy
Dr. Geena Joseph - Medications in Pregnancy: Dispelling Myths and Ensuring Safety
Objectives:
· Describe the general principles of teratogenicity
· Recite the new FDA Pregnancy and Lactation Labeling Rule (PLLR)
· Describe an approach to counselling on the use of medications in pregnancy and lactation
· Describe the particularities of using common medications in pregnant and lactating patients
