Southern Dirt is one of 8 Muster Points across WA, delivering the Grower Group Alliance's statewide Muster program locally. It's built around a simple problem: live sheep export by sea ends in May 2028, and every producer is going to respond to that differently. Our program is about exploring the business options that are out there, through podcasts with local producers sharing their experience, workshops and field days where you can see what's on offer and how it might fit your operation, and a knowledge hub of resources and case studies to come back to when you need them.
Topics we're exploring include business modelling for post live-export markets, feedbase resilience and autumn feed gap management, confinement feeding and automated feed systems, pasture regeneration and mixed species systems, livestock data capture (Optiweigh, EID and NLIS), animal performance and welfare best practice, and market pathway readiness across processor and feedlot options.
Expression of Interest
Complete the short Survey Monkey link below to get involved. We're looking for a few different kinds of input: people who hold knowledge on the topics above, demonstration site hosts (whether you've already got a system running or are just starting out and want us alongside you for the journey), confidential benchmarking producers (this will centre on livestock systems), and general project followers who just want to learn as it goes.
The better the input, the more useful the program will be for our region, so if any of this is relevant to you, we'd like to hear from you.
