Application Instructions and Position Description

We appreciate your interest in the 2017 Orientation Team! Being an Orientation Team (O-Team) member it is a fun way to develop leadership skills, meet faculty, staff and incoming students as well as grow professionally.

Please read the entire position description to learn about the qualifications, requirements, important dates and the job description for the Orientation Team member position and then proceed to the application.

The Orientation Team Interview process consists of three rounds of various group and individual interviews and will be held January 20th (evening) and Saturday, January 22nd (morning & Afternoon). Please be available for this dates and times upon submission of your application. Application deadline is Friday, January 13, 2017.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Full time undergraduate student at Ashland University from January 2017 - December 2017.

• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and be in good academic standing; individual circumstances will be discussed and taken into consideration.

• Must possess and exhibit a positive attitude and demeanor of Ashland University interpersonally as well as via social media.

• Must be in good Student Conduct standing.

• Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills; written and oral.

• Ability to meet assigned deadlines within structured time frames.

• Understanding of group dynamics and the ability to lead as well as follow.

ROLES:
For Drive-Ins and Orientation Weekend, O-Team members will be active leaders by assisting with:

• Program set-up, decorations, and signs
• Greeting new students and parents as they arrive
• Program check-in
• Leading groups to locations across campus
• Participating in O-Team Skits
• Facilitating icebreakers and answering questions in J.A.M. (Just Ask Me) Sessions
• Leading campus tours
• Dance with the team during the annual O-Team Boogie
• Attend/facilitate small group activities during Orientation Weekend
• Participating in AU G.I.V.S Feed Ashland service project
• Assisting with the Involvement Fair during Orientation Weekend
• HAVE FUN!

REQUIREMENTS:
• Hold the position of Orientation Team member from January 2017 to December 2017.

• Promptly attend and actively participate in the O-Team Retreat and all workshops throughout the spring which include the following:
Spring 2017:
February 3 and 4 – O-Team Retreat, TBA
March 19 – Spring O-Team Workshop #1, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
April 9 – Spring O-Team Workshop #2, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

• Attend/facilitate at least three of the six summer Drive-Ins (6/9, 6/14, 6/19, 6/22, 6/27, 7/26)

• O-Teamers must arrive the by 6:45 p.m. the night prior to their scheduled drive-in and attend a logistics meeting to be acquainted with the Drive-In schedule, last minute updates and individual responsibilities for that day.

• Return to campus early (8/23) in the Fall to assist with Orientation Weekend prep.

• Attend/facilitate ALL O-Weekend events which run Friday, August 25 – Sunday, August 27.

• Participate in all aspects of Fall Orientation including, but not limited to:
Academic/social programs
Guided campus and community Tours
Set-up and clean-up of activities
Check-in

• Continue communication via email with your O-Weekend group throughout the first six weeks of fall semester.

• Report directly to and perform the duties as assigned by Executive O-Team Members and Director of Orientation.

• Assist with the overall coordination and presentation of orientation programs by performing in the best interest of Ashland University.

• Serve as a representative of the University in presenting a positive outlook and view of the overall program.

• May not hold the position of Resident Assistant, as a member of the cheerleading squad/dance team or be a Student Affairs in Intern.
