County of Ventura SEIU 721 members,

Through our unity and participation, we won a strong contract in 2019 and have worked hard to protect contract wins and keep members and the clients we serve as safe as possible throughout this pandemic.

Our contract expires on December 17, 2022 and it’s time to gear up for bargaining. We need your input on this survey so the bargaining team we elect can review our priorities and formulate proposals.

1. As 2022 begins, inflation is running high. How important is it to you that we mount a fight for a TRUE cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in 2022, a raise that truly matches the significant increase in our cost of living?

Not so important.

Please read the following to understand the threat to our jobs:

In recent years, the Board of Supervisors has continued to privatize County jobs. Every year the Board diverts hundreds of thousands of dollars away from County employees and into the private sector. The Health Care Agency continues to rely on outside registries for nurses, respiratory technicians, and other positions, while our understaffed hospital workers suffer.

The County continues to contract out custodial, grounds maintenance, clerical, security, food services, and GAIN case management functions, even though SEIU 721 members are also doing this work. New money and programs in mental and behavioral health are often diverted to outside contracts. Privatization is a way to get around the salary and benefit standards that we fight so hard to raise up. And privatization threatens job security and removes job and promotional opportunities for SEIU 721 members.

Should 2022 be the year that SEIU 721 members make a stand to reverse this privatization trend?
