Popular understandings of infectious disease symptoms in the COVID era

Introduction

1.We are conducting a survey about people's knowledge and beliefs around COVID-19.
2.Description of the study
We want to understand your general knowledge of COVID-19, how you understand the virus to be transmitted and acquired, how you are getting health information during the pandemic, and the actions that you, others in your community, and the government have taken to protect people.

This study is being conducted by:

- Dr Susanna Trnka and Ms Miriama Aoake, University of Auckland, New Zealand
- Dr Lisa Wynn, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia

…and our research assistants. 

Who is funding this research?
The research is funded by the Social Science Research Council, the Australian Research Council, the University of Auckland, and the Irish Research Council.

Who can participate in the study?
Anyone who is currently living in Australia, Aotearoa/New Zealand, or Ireland can participate.  Unfortunately, this study is not available to people living in other countries.

What about privacy?
All of us on the study team will all be looking at the online survey results. Your responses to this study will never be attributed to you personally. Survey data collected in this study will be made available to the public in aggregate, anonymous, non-attributable form. That means that whatever you answer in this survey cannot be used to personally identify you. The anonymous data will also be provided to third-party researchers.  Your answers may be stored in the cloud and on servers outside of Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand.

Do I have to answer every question?
You can skip any question you don’t want to answer. You can also stop taking this survey at any time, for any reason.  Please answer as many questions as you can. We would really appreciate it!

How long will the survey take?
In pilot tests, it took people between 25-60 minutes to complete the survey.  How long it took depended on how much detail they included in their answers.  It's up to you how much time to spend on each question.

How can I enter the prize draw?
At the end of the survey, there will be information about how to enter your name into the draw.
